Dr. Pae received his optometric degree in 1991 from The University of Waterloo after completing his honours science degree in biology and physiological optics. During his academic training, he was the recipient of the KWO Award for Academic Achievement in Optometry and the MLAS Merit Scholarship. He performed research on macular degeneration with Professor Ann Plotkin, head of the University of Waterloo Centre for Low Vision, and was active in the University of Waterloo Student Council.
Dr. Pae has volunteered with the CNIB Toronto chapter and was a member of a team of doctors that traveled overseas with the World Health Organization to provide health care to people in developing countries. He was also a member of the World Health Organization’s Foundation For International Self-Help that provided free vision care to people in underprivileged regions worldwide.
Dr. Pae has spoken numerous times at schools and educational events, on topics ranging from various eye problems, to the importance of routine eye examinations. He has also been featured on local radio shows and on television programs such as the Marilyn Dennis Show and City TV’s Breakfast Television.
Dr. Pae has served on the U.S. Vision Optometric Advisory Panel in Philadelphia, where he was the optometrist representing Canada. He continues to provide ongoing professional consultation for several contact lens manufacturers.
In 1999, he successfully underwent laser eye surgery and is now better able to advise his patients who are considering the procedure for themselves.
